Master and concert musician of sitar

 

Famous sitar master. Born in Calcutta into a family of musicians (his mother was an accomplished singer), he began his sitar studies at the age of fourteen, under the guidance of the well-known master Pandit Kartik Kumar. After moving to Italy, he became an important reference point for many Western artists studying Indian music. He is distinguished by an interpretative style of great intensity and refinement, and now has to his credit more than a hundred concerts throughout Italy.

 

In 1997, for example, he played for His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Gorizia, in December 2000 he was invited to play for Amnesty International, and in February 2001 he performed at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan.

 

In November 2001 he also won the “Zecchino d'Argento” award, in the category Foreign Songs for Children, and in addition to these performances he took part in various cross-cultural projects, with musicians of the Arabic and flamenco styles.

 

He has often been invited to perform at the Mandala Tibetan Studies Center in Milan, particularly for the celebration of the Buddhist national holiday of Vesak in May 2009, and holds concerts at various yoga centers and schools in Milan and province. He lives and works in Milan, as a sitar teacher and computer engineer.
